According to the Yonhap News Agency on February 6, citing CNN Business, despite international efforts to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions, the world’s disposable plastic waste production has reached the largest scale in history. The Minderu Consortium, an Australian non-profit civil society group, said in the report of the Plastic Waste Producer Index published on the same day that the world will produce 139 million tons of disposable plastic waste in 2021, an increase of 6 million tons over 2019, equivalent to an increase of 1 kg of disposable plastic waste per capita in the world in the past two years. The consortium pointed out that with the increasing demand for plastic packaging such as plastic film and plastic bag, the recycling rate of waste plastic is still insufficient, and disposable plastic waste is increasing. Andrew Forrest, founder of the Munderu consortium and Australian mining plutocrat, said that the problem of plastic pollution was becoming more serious. In order to improve the reuse of polymers, it was necessary to introduce a recovery compensation system for polymers made from fossil fuels.
